Debunking Claims of Thick Clear Discharge: What, When and Why?

Clear thick discharge what are they

Dealing with medical conditions, infections and diseases, there is no single idea about this or that problem, as we all are different from the point of view of body functioning and the ability to resist viruses. This is the case with thick clear discharges as well. The factors that lead to their occurrence are multiple. We’d like to speak on the most common ones.

Ovulation

Normally, thick clear discharge is a sign that a woman is ovulating. It is stretchy and occurs in great quantities. In fact, the occurrence of this type of discharge is frequently a good sign: the discharge gives more chances to sperm, as it is able to survive for a relatively longer time (up to three days).

During this term, a large amount of mucus increases the chances of a woman to get pregnant.

This is why many women consult their healthcare providers in order to examine their discharges and take note, when they are the thickest to ensure the chances for conceiving.

“Am I Pregnant?”

Though, we’ve mentioned that in most cases such discharges are signs of ovulation, they can also be symptoms of pregnancy and, thus, the signs of the changes on hormonal level.

When a thick clear discharges is pregnancy-related, it is accompanied by cramping and mild headaches that look like those common to the symptoms of a period. As a rule, such discharges are made up of the secretions of the vagina and cervix, normal bacteria and old cells from the walls of vagina.

If the discharge has nothing to do with pregnancy, it can appear when you approach to labor. As it is not common to all women, it gives rise to anxiety.

How to Prevent Thick Clear Discharges?

  1. Always keep your genital area dry and clean.
  2. Use condoms to avoid catching of sexually transmitted diseases and their spreading.
  3. Don’t wear extremely tight-fitting pants or shorts
  4. Give preferences to cotton underwear and cotton-crotch pantyhose
  5. Do not douche after an intercourse or after/during menstruation, because it removes healthy bacteria lining the vagina and worsens vaginal discharge.
